Wedgewood Homes team members in Dallas came together for a day of service at Dress for Success Dallas on Friday, October 14, 2022. Dress for Success is a worldwide non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women toward achieving economic independence by providing professional attire, career development tools, and a network of support to help women thrive in work and life.
Preparing for the Day
In the weeks leading up to the service day, Wedgewood Homes team members collected new and gently used professional attire — dress shirts, pants, blazers, and shoes — to donate. Dress for Success places a strong emphasis on the quality of donations, ensuring that clothing is clean, contemporary, and in new to gently used condition so that every client can feel confident and put their best foot forward.
The Day of Service
On the day of the event, Wedgewood Homes employees helped collect donations and sort and tag apparel, shoes, and accessories. The experience left a strong impression on the team.
"I was so inspired by the mission of Dress for Success — empowering women to feel confident, learn new and important skills, and find work where they make competitive salaries," said Jessica LeRoy Thigpen, Director of Strategic Initiatives & Philanthropy at Wedgewood Homes. "We had the unique opportunity to volunteer in their clothing donation center, and it was amazing to see how much work they have put into giving women a real chance at success. Every client receives an outfit to interview and an additional three outfits when offered a position. What a game-changer for someone who doesn't have the funds to purchase clothing on their own. We resonated with the mission and passion of the Dress for Success team to create opportunities — one of our company's core values."
